Breitling SuperOcean Heritage 46 & 38 Review Review of matching SuperOcean Heritage Watches purchased as ,breitling watch review The 1960s was a fascinating horological era, with the decade’s watch landscape experiencing a number of drastic shifts in movement technology and overall design language. Numerous watershed models were released during this time that greatly influenced the industry for decades, one of which was Breitling’s Top Time Ref. 2003. Sporty yet refined, the vintage Swiss-made watch is now being revived via a limited run of updated versions of this iconic timepiece.
Limited to 2,000 units, the new version of this classic James Bond watch — which appeared in Thunderball — largely stays true to its 1960s predecessor, maintaining the original’s bare bezel, lugs, and tail-piston pushers, though its stainless steel case his been increased in size to 41mm’s. The dial also retains the ‘60s version’s “bow-tie” dial and slightly uncommon use of an outer decimal scale (versus a more traditional tachymeter). The contrasting red from the original dial also remains, though it now adorns the central hours and minutes. Powering the recreated chronograph is a Valjoux 7753-based Caliber 23 automatic chronograph movement that’s COSC-certification for chronometer accuracy. The new version also matches the original’s waterproofness rating at a meager 30-meters – the one down-side to this otherwise-stellar recreation. Sold with a textured brown nubuck strap, the Breitling Top Time Limited Edition is available now for $4,990.
